Two sisters born with clefts.
Destined to suffer.
Until they made a life-changing journey.

The sisters were taunted, shamed, isolated.

Operation Smile's medical mission in Tamatave, Madagascar was the only hope for 6-year-old Vaviroa and 2-year-old Nambina.

18 miles on foot. 12 hours by bus.
The girls and their parents made a life-changing journey in search of hope and a second chance at life.

"I prayed that their lips would be fixed..."

- Vaviroa and Nambina's mother

They thought they were the only ones

At the medical mission, the sisters saw so many other children with clefts. For the first time they knew they were not alone. They saw a doctor, a dentist and a speech therapist. It was like nothing they'd ever experienced before.

Good news at last

And after three days, they received incredible news.
Both of them would receive free surgery and new smiles.

New smiles and
new beginnings.

Both sisters lives were transformed, each with bright beautiful new smiles.

6 months later
lives transformed.

Vaviroa and Nambina got the new smiles they'd dreamed of, and thanks to friends like you, Vaviroa was able to start school and loves math. Nambina's spirit and smile, brighter than ever.
